Chapter 3509
“When did Mr. York arrive?” Kathryn inquired.
Hayden responded, “He arrived not long ago. We heard you were in the hospital, so he came with us to visit you.”
Zachary had informed Serenity that he was going on a business trip, but he had actually traveled to Jensburg. He planned to return to Wiltspoon only after evaluating the situation in Jensburg and discussing the next steps with Liberty. It would take him just two or three days, as he couldn’t stay too long for fear that Serenity might discover the truth.
Kathryn smiled, “Mr. York is very thoughtful.”
Technically, Kathryn was a few years younger than Zachary, but since she was Serenity’s aunt, she was considered his elder. Therefore, Zachary should address her as Aunt. It is customary for the younger generation to show respect to their elders, even when the underlying reasons are understood.
If Kathryn hadn’t alerted Liberty, the residents of Wiltspoon wouldn’t have been so welcoming towards her. Even if they were friendly, they would still be cautious. Kathryn recognized this; if she were in their position, she wouldn’t handle things as well as the people in Wiltspoon had.

Pedro replied, “I just heard about it. Mr. York tends to keep a low profile when he arrives; I didn’t want to cause you any worry.”
Kathryn paused for a moment before saying, “Although my mom hasn’t taken any action yet, the more people from Wiltspoon that come, the more anxious and worried I feel. After all, she is my biological mother. I still hope she’s doing well, but…”

must be paid for with a life. Her mother had murdered her aunt’s family and spared no one, not even her aunt. To reach the top, her hands were stained with blood. Once she got there, she mistreated her family, leading to widespread dissatisfaction. Although forty or fifty years had passed, those past actions might not lead to her mother’s execution, but they could certainly tarnish her reputation. Kathryn found herself at odds with her mother and feared that when the day of reckoning arrived, her mother, who had always been strong, might resort to an extreme solution.
Pedro said, “What is destined to happen will happen, and you cannot escape it.”
“I want to make amends for my mother, but it’s futile. She has no desire to seek forgiveness. All I want is for her to find peace,” Kathryn sighed. “I’ve done my best as a daughter, so let it be.”
“Let’s eat,” she added, as Hayden and the others were approaching, knowing she wouldn’t get a chance to eat once they arrived.
