After the kiss, Kevin pulled away, exercising restraint. Hayden, who had been relaxing with her eyes closed, opened them to find deep emotion reflected in Kevin’s gaze.
Gently caressing his face, Hayden said softly, “Go home and get some rest. Sweet dreams, and good night.”
Kevin replied, “You too. I’ll come by for breakfast tomorrow morning.” He then kissed her cheek.
Hayden responded, “Okay.”
Kevin embraced her tightly before rising from the sofa. When Hayden attempted to walk him to the door, Kevin declined.
“Just stay there. There’s no need to see me off. If you do, I might not want to leave and could end up staying until midnight.”
Hayden laughed and remained seated, watching as Kevin exited and closed the door behind him. Once she was alone in the room, she finally allowed herself to relax completely.
Suddenly, the door to the second bedroom opened, and Hugh emerged in his pajamas.
Hayden was startled, and her expression shifted to one of irritation. “Hugh, when did you come in?”
Hugh, surprised by her anger, quickly composed himself and replied casually, “I took some clients out for dinner at our hotel tonight. Afterward, I came upstairs to rest. I didn’t realize you were staying here tonight.”
He added with a grin, “Sister, please don’t glare at me. I didn’t see what…”
“You and Kevin were busy while I was just playing games in the other room,” Hugh said.
Hayden shot him a stern look. “There’s nothing inappropriate happening. Besides, Kevin and I are getting married soon, so even if we were being intimate, it’s perfectly natural. I wouldn’t be embarrassed about it.”
Hayden was not one to blush easily. With their engagement public knowledge, she felt no reason to be self-conscious about showing affection for Kevin.
Hugh grinned. “You’re right, Sister. You don’t get embarrassed easily.”
He quickly received a playful slap from Hayden.
Hugh quickly amended his statement, “I mean, you have great self-control. You remain calm no matter what happens.”
“What were you doing in the room?” Hayden asked, giving him another playful slap.
