After walking for half an hour, Duncan and Liberty returned to the hotel. At the entrance, they encountered Zachary and Kevin, who had just arrived back.
“Duncan, you’re here,” Zachary greeted as he approached them. He then turned to Liberty and added, “Hello, sister.”
Kevin, following behind, joked with Duncan, “I told my brother you’d show up in the next couple of days. It’s tough missing someone, isn’t it?”
“You know what it’s like,” Duncan replied with a chuckle. Kevin couldn’t argue; he had indeed experienced the pain of missing someone.
“You two went shopping and bought a lot,” Kevin observed. Noticing the toys Duncan was carrying, he added, “Sonny’s got more new toys, huh?”
“Yeah, I got Sonny some clothes and new toys. I used to only give him windmills, so I thought it was time to mix it up a bit.” Duncan laughed at the memory of always giving Sonny windmills. He had really liked the boy but hadn’t known how to connect with him back then.
Once, seeing Sonny play with a windmill made Duncan think it was his favorite, so he kept giving him one every day. At first, Sonny had been afraid of Duncan, but after receiving countless windmills, he warmed up to him. Winning Sonny’s trust had been one of the toughest challenges Duncan faced. But now, Sonny treated him like a father, and Duncan knew he had surpassed Hank’s role in the boy’s heart. Now, it was Hank who had reason to feel envious.
The four of them entered the hotel together.
“Kevin, didn’t your father-in-law insist on you staying longer?” Liberty asked with a smile.
Kevin replied, “My brother will pick up my sister-in-law and Sonny tomorrow. It’s closer to the airport from here, so I’ll take him there. I’ll stay at the hotel tonight. Clive is also…
Heading back to Wiltspoon, but your aunt, her husband, and Grandpa Jimenez aren’t in a hurry. I believe they’ll wait until your holiday before returning to Wiltspoon. During the New Year, Wildridge Manor would be lively, as the entire York family gathered. His mother-in-law joked that seeing all the York brothers together was quite a sight.
“Zach, are you going to pick up Seren tomorrow?” Liberty asked, assuming her brother-in-law would stay a bit longer.
Zachary replied, “You and your aunt can handle the rest here. Kathryn is dependable and will manage the Farrell family matters. I’ll leave for now and stay at Johnson’s for a couple of days before returning. Seren went to her parents’ house with Jane today. She’ll be there for two days before coming back to FC Manor.”
Liberty smiled. “Then go be with her. Your brothers are running the company, so there’s no rush for you to get home. Sonny is having so much fun that he hardly misses me—he only video calls me before bed.”
Liberty was busy too, and Sonny didn’t want to disturb her during the day. He was a thoughtful boy, which eased Liberty’s worries.
Zachary nodded in agreement. They all entered the elevator. Zachary and Kevin headed to the top floor, while Liberty and Duncan got off on the twelfth floor.
There wasn’t much conversation that night. The next morning, after breakfast, Kevin drove Zachary and his bodyguard to Jensburg Airport to catch a flight to Annenburg.
