Zachary and Julian exited the house, accompanied by two servants who carried a large tray filled with food and drinks. The servants maintained a steady pace behind their masters. Both men had keen eyesight and quickly spotted their beloved partners sitting at a distance. Without needing to ask, Zachary sensed that Serenity appeared a bit tired.
In the past, he had observed female employees at his company working late into their pregnancies, even when their bellies were noticeably large. Although their responsibilities were lighter, many continued to work. Having witnessed this, Zachary had assumed that pregnancy and childbirth were relatively easy. He had not fully considered the perspectives of these women, who often worked throughout their pregnancies out of fear that taking extended leave would result in being replaced or sidelined, forcing them to start over in the competitive landscape of a large organization.
Climbing the corporate ladder is a challenging endeavor, with promotions requiring persistence. No one wants to lose their hard-earned positions, so they push themselves to work until around eight months of pregnancy. At that point, even if they wish to continue, companies typically enforce maternity leave to protect them. Zachary had seen these situations unfold numerous times. When Serenity first became pregnant, she insisted on continuing her work and managing her business, and Zachary supported her choice without hesitation.
Now, with Serenity’s growing belly, Zachary recognized that pregnancy was not as simple as he once believed. Although Serenity’s stamina was remarkable, she still needed frequent breaks after short walks. Before her pregnancy, she could explore all of Wildridge Manor in one go without any complaints, and as a martial artist, her strength surpassed that of many ordinary women. With the year-end approaching, Zachary reflected on the challenges they faced together.
As the date approached, Elisa had assumed most of Serenity’s company responsibilities, leaving Serenity and Jasmine to make only occasional appearances. However, Jasmine continued to visit the bookstore daily. Even though it was winter break—typically a quieter time—she preferred to stay active rather than remain at home during her pregnancy.
Although Jasmine’s family and in-laws provided her with all the support she needed and money was not an issue, she still felt restless. Accustomed to a life filled with activity and freedom, she found staying at home monotonous.
Her husband, Josh, adored her and supported whatever made her happy. Working at the bookstore allowed her to read, chat with neighbors, visit friends, and spend her time in a fulfilling manner. For her, earning money was not the priority; her happiness was.
“There they are,” Julian pointed out to Zachary. He had been concerned about having to search for Kiera and Serenity and had even pulled out his phone to call Kiera. Wildridge Manor was expansive, with each season showcasing unique and breathtaking views.
Familiar with its beauty, Julian always took the chance to explore the grounds whenever he visited Grandma York, marveling at the different seasonal displays.
“I see them. Let’s head over,” Zachary replied. “There’s a pavilion nearby. Let’s call them to join us there for tea and a chat.”
With that, Zachary began walking briskly toward Serenity, with Julian following closely behind. Along the way, Julian inquired about the marriage certificate.
Familiar with the beauty of the grounds, he always seized the chance to explore whenever he visited Grandma York, appreciating the various seasonal displays.
“I see them. Let’s go over,” Zachary said. “There’s a pavilion nearby; we should invite them to join us there for tea and a chat.”
With that, Zachary began walking briskly toward Serenity, with Julian closely following. Along the way, Julian asked about the marriage certificate process.
“You don’t need to seek advice from anyone,” Zachary replied. “Just collect all the necessary documents and go to the Civil Affairs Bureau tomorrow morning. They will guide you through the process. Fewer people are getting married these days, so you won’t have to wait in line. It will be quick and easy.”
