Chapter 3860
Duncan looked at Liberty and said, “I think I can make it to the Civil Affairs Bureau tomorrow to take care of the paperwork. Liberty hasn’t mentioned her availability, but I believe tomorrow should work.”
Mrs. Lewis replied, “Try to go tomorrow. The Bureau will close for the New Year, and we want to avoid any delays. Once it’s done, I’ll have you review the betrothal gifts. If you’re satisfied, I’ll send them to Liberty’s family. I’ve also had someone select several auspicious wedding dates, but you’ll need to discuss them with Audrey and Serenity to choose a date that fits Liberty’s schedule and family needs.”
Mrs. Lewis recognized how much Liberty was managing. As the eldest daughter and sister, Liberty had always carried a significant burden—first raising her younger sister and now taking on the responsibilities of the Farrell family. It saddened Mrs. Lewis to see Liberty endure such stress. She wished Liberty could focus solely on her restaurant, but as the oldest sibling, Liberty felt an undeniable sense of duty.
Duncan nodded gently. “Mom, let’s go over all of this when we get back. I know time is tight, but I want our wedding with Liberty to be as grand as Zachary and Serenity’s was.”
“Absolutely,” Mrs. Lewis assured him. “Liberty will have everything Serenity did. She’ll be treated with love and respect, and we’ll ensure she faces no hardships with us.”
She was genuinely thrilled that her youngest son, soon to turn 37, had finally found love. Once, she had hesitated, believing in traditional “well-matched” marriages, but after everything her family had experienced, she now understood that happiness was what truly mattered.
“Well, let’s discuss it when you return.”
“Come back soon! I miss Sonny,” Mrs. Lewis said warmly. Although Sonny wasn’t her biological grandson, Mrs. Lewis loved him as if he were. He was charming, kind, and affectionate, and the entire family cherished him. To reassure Liberty, they went out of their way to demonstrate that Sonny would be welcomed by the Lewis family.
Duncan chuckled, “Mom, I know you’re just excited to see Sonny. When he’s around, I feel practically invisible.”
“Exactly,” she laughed. “Sonny is just so much cuter than you! Hurry home; I can’t wait to see him!”
Sonny had recently spent over ten days in Annenburg, and Mrs. Lewis truly missed his presence. After ending the call, Liberty turned to Duncan with a gentle question.
“Was that your mom calling?”
“Yeah,” Duncan replied. “She wanted to know when we’d be back. I told her we’d come after you’ve had a chance to rest—probably just in time for dinner. Is that alright?”
Duncan watched Liberty closely, hoping she wouldn’t mind his plans.
On her behalf, Liberty simply smiled and softly replied, “Of course, that’s fine. I’m not tired, so let’s go ahead and make plans.”
