Chapter 3993
In the expansive conference room on the top floor of the Farrell Group in Jensburg, tension filled the air as senior executives and over a dozen elder members of the Farrell family convened. These elders, contemporaries of Audrey, were regarded as “old folks” from Liberty’s viewpoint.
At the head of the room, Kathryn and Liberty sat side by side, commanding attention. Ever loyal, Pedro occupied the seat next to Kathryn. Across the table, Marco and his two brothers fixed their piercing gazes on the two women. If looks could kill, Kathryn and Liberty would have been torn to shreds; the resentment radiating from the three brothers, especially Marco, was palpable.
They had begged Kathryn, pleading with her to reconsider, but she remained resolute. Kathryn was determined to transfer control of the Farrell Group—and the entire family legacy—into Liberty’s hands. They accused her of alienating the family’s trust and losing the clan’s affection. But did it matter?
Under Kathryn’s mother’s leadership, relentless ambition had concentrated 80% of the family’s power in the hands of the head of the household. The Farrell family had long ceased to function as a democracy. Now, the head of the family wielded absolute authority, leaving the elder generation without a voice, and the younger generation’s opinions were mere whispers in the wind.
Kathryn’s mother had suppressed every promising young talent within the family, curtailing their opportunities for advancement. The alleged loss of clan support was inconsequential. Kathryn firmly grasped the reins of power. As long as she held that power, what could the others do? This world favored the strong; power was paramount.
Years ago, Liberty’s branch of the family had weakened, allowing Kathryn’s mother to seize control. Now, Kathryn intended to
pass that power to Liberty—against all opposition.
Standing tall, Kathryn scanned the room with a piercing gaze. Her voice remained steady, with each word infused with authority. “Everyone here is aware of what transpired last year,” she began, her tone leaving no room for dissent. “There’s no need for me to reiterate it. You all know why we are gathered today. I am officially transferring the leadership of the Farrell Group and the family to Liberty. Effective immediately, she will be your new president and the head of the family.
“Do not underestimate her due to her age or lack of experience. Support her, collaborate with her, and let me be perfectly clear—if anyone attempts to undermine Liberty or operate covertly, you will have to answer to me. Consider this a warning.”
Liberty sat quietly, her face calm yet determined as Kathryn continued.
With a firm voice tinged with finality, Kathryn added, “Once Liberty has acclimated to her role, I will resign from all my positions within the Farrell Group and step back from my responsibilities to the family. After that, the affairs of the Farrell family will no longer involve me.
“I will not take anything that belongs to this family. The only thing I am leaving with is Pedro.”
Pedro, fiercely loyal, would never serve another master. He belonged by Kathryn’s side, and she had no intention of abandoning him. Their bond was unbreakable.
Marco, his anger boiling over, slammed his hand on the table. “Liberty? She’s a Hunt! Her last name isn’t even Farrell. Why should she lead our family? Sure, her grandmother was once the head of the family, but that was ages ago!
“Tradition dictates that leadership is passed from mother to daughter—not aunt to niece. Kathryn, you are unmarried and childless. If you do not wish to marry and have a daughter of your own,
“That’s fine, but at the very least, pass the position to another capable girl within the clan. Even if she’s not a direct descendant, she would still carry the Farrell name. Liberty doesn’t.”
Noel, Marco’s brother, nodded in agreement. “He’s right, Kathryn. You’re disrupting generations of tradition with this decision.”
Liberty remained calm as she turned her gaze to the three brothers, their defiance not intimidating her.
“I’ve already taken care of that,” she said, her voice steady and clear. “I’ve changed my surname. From now on, I will be Liberty Farrell. My mother’s surname was Farrell, and now mine is too.”
Her words left the room in silence. Liberty Hunt was no longer who she was. She had embraced her new identity as Liberty Farrell, ready to assume her rightful position as head of the family.
Her sister, Serenity, would keep the Hunt name; that was her choice. But Liberty had made her decision and was resolute in not backing down.
