Chapter: 3008
After that, Gu Qiuyi asked him, “By the way, Brother Charlie Wade, are you going back to Yanjing for the ancestor worship ceremony on Qingming Festival?”
Charlie Wade nodded and replied, “Yes, what’s up?”
Gu Qiuyi continued, “What’s the matter? The Qingming Festival isn’t until April. That means in just over 20 days, I will see you again in Yanjing.”
Charlie smiled slightly and said, “Yes, I will definitely visit you and Uncle Gu and Aunt Lin then.”
Gu Qiuyi added, “Your timing is perfect because I’m going to the United States in mid-April.”
“Going to America?” Charlie asked, curious. “Why are you going there all of a sudden?”
“It’s not sudden,” Gu Qiuyi explained. “I’m not quitting the entertainment industry just yet. I want to hold a few more concerts to show my fans I appreciate them. I have many fans in Europe, America, Japan, and Korea. So, in addition to concerts in mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea, I also have some planned in the U.S. From mid-April to the end of April, I’ll perform in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston, and Seattle. That’s five concerts, and then I’ll head to Japan and South Korea for three concerts in each country.”
Charlie looked puzzled and asked, “Why not finish your Asian performances before going to Europe and the U.S.? You’ll be busy for over half a month and then have to travel back.”
Gu Qiuyi smiled and said, “My parents are going to the U.S. for work in April, so I decided to go with them.”
Then she turned to Charlie and asked.
Wade asked, “Brother Charlie Wade, do you want to go together?”
Charlie Wade shook his head and smiled, “I can’t go. There’s a lot to do in Jinling, especially since the Ocean Shipping Group is starting up in April. I’ll be busy.”
Gu Qiuyi nodded, looking a bit disappointed. “I’m not very familiar with the place in the United States where I was born. I always feel a bit out of place. It would be nice to have my parents with me. It would be even better if you could come, but I understand you have your own things to take care of.”
Charlie Wade tried to reassure her. “Even though the U.S. is far away, it’s only a twelve-hour flight. Plus, you’ll mainly be performing for overseas Chinese, so you shouldn’t worry too much about feeling uncomfortable.”
“Yeah,” Gu Qiuyi said, nodding slightly. Then she asked, “Brother Charlie Wade, don’t you want to visit the United States?”
Charlie Wade shook his head. “What would I go see in America?”
Gu Qiuyi replied, “You could see your grandparents. I heard my mom say they’re still alive.”
Charlie Wade paused for a moment, then smiled awkwardly. “I don’t think I’ll disturb them. I only met them a few times when I was little, and I don’t really have any feelings for them. Honestly, I don’t think they have any feelings for me either.”
There was something Charlie Wade didn’t say. He didn’t know much about his mother’s past and had only seen his grandparents when he was very young, so there was no real connection between them. Plus, after meeting He Yuanjiang, he learned more about his family history.
Charlie Wade knew that his mother’s family was much more powerful than the Ye family. His grandparents had never been happy about his mother marrying his father and moving back to China. It’s said that this choice caused a lot of fights between his mother and her family.
Now that his mother has passed away, Charlie felt it would be awkward for him to suddenly visit his grandparents, whom he hadn’t seen in 20 years. He thought that avoiding contact with them would show respect for their feelings.
