Chapter: 3053
Charlie Wade looked at the three people in front of him. They were all younger than him by at least five or six years, both in looks and attitude, and he felt a wave of relief wash over him.
Since the death of his parents, Charlie had been alone and had never truly known what it felt like to have a family. After marrying Xiao Churan, he thought he had found that family, but the Xiao family treated him poorly. Only Xiao Churan saw him as a true family member; the rest of them didn’t seem to care about him at all.
Even though his in-laws, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, were nice to him, Charlie knew their kindness came with strings attached. He had done many favors for them in return. Compared to the bond he felt with Gu Yanzhong’s family, the Xiao family felt distant and cold. Gu Yanzhong’s family had a genuine connection that was free of any selfish motives.
Seeing how much happier Gu Yanzhong’s family was now, Charlie smiled and said, “Uncle Gu, Aunt Lin, and Nuns, that glass of water you had should help keep you healthy for the next three to five years. During this time, your bodies will be stronger than most people’s, and you won’t get sick easily.”
He continued, “But remember to balance work and rest. Just because you’re feeling better doesn’t mean you should overwork yourselves.”
The family nodded in agreement. Lin Wanqiu wiped her tears and replied earnestly, “Chen’er, don’t worry. Your uncle Gu and I will make sure to prioritize our health from now on. We wouldn’t want to let you down after this amazing gift.”
Gu Yanzhong added with a sigh, “That’s right.”
“Health is the most important thing!” Charlie Wade said with a satisfied smile. “I’m so happy that you two have this knowledge.”
Just then, Hong Wu knocked on the door and announced, “Master Ye, Miss Gu’s cake is ready. Would you like me to bring it in now?”
Before Charlie could respond, Gu Qiuyi quickly interjected, “Wait! Don’t worry!”
She turned to Charlie and said, “Brother Charlie, hold on a moment. I need to check the cake for any issues!”
Then she instructed her dad, Gu Yanzhong, “Dad, please turn off the lights first, and then turn them back on after we blow out the candles!”
Gu Yanzhong swiftly turned off the lights in the room. Meanwhile, Gu Qiuyi opened the door and sneaked out.
A little while later, she returned, carefully pushing in a food delivery cart. Atop the cart was a magnificent five-layer cake. Each of the first four layers had six candles, while the top layer had three, making a total of 27 candles.
What caught Charlie’s attention were the two incredibly lifelike dolls made of fondant on the top layer. To his surprise, they depicted a little boy and girl. The boy looked about five or six years old, while the girl appeared to be three or four.
Their outfits, though from at least 20 years ago, were still elegant and neatly crafted. The boy stood confidently, while the girl, who was shorter, shyly held onto his arm. Their expressions were lively, adding to the charm of the cake.
The boy looked a bit dull and even a little confused. In contrast, the girl was very happy, laughing like a blooming flower.
