Chapter: 3122
The ancestor worship ceremony organized by Ye Jiading in twenty days was a big deal for many people. It wasn’t just the Ye family in Yanjing; branches of the Ye family from all over the country and around the world started preparing for the event early.
Charlie Wade was also looking forward to the ceremony. He had made up his mind to attend and had a plan to bring Su Shoudao back from Syria. Charlie wanted Su to kneel at his parents’ graves and confess, hoping it would bring peace to their spirits. Even though Su wasn’t the one who directly harmed his parents, Charlie felt this was an important step. He intended to confront everyone who had wronged his family, starting with Su Shoudao, and make them face the consequences of their actions.
Meanwhile, Su Shoudao in Syria was also thinking about the upcoming ceremony. He had been counting down the days, knowing that the time of Qingming meant he was one step closer to returning to China. He understood that this return was really just Charlie bringing him to the Ye family’s ancestral grave to confess his guilt regarding Ye Changying. This felt like a huge insult to him.
Despite this, Su was eager for the day to arrive. He realized that staying in Syria, in a remote place like Hamid’s base, meant his family would never know where he was. But if Charlie allowed him to go back to China, even if it meant kneeling at the Ye family grave, he would finally have a chance to let the Su family know he was alive.
“What a specific situation!” Su Shoudao said, feeling anxious. “This isn’t good. My father still has a plan to rescue me.”
“He might negotiate with Charlie Wade,” someone replied. “But it’s a long shot. Selling some benefits to get you back might not work.”
“Even if there’s only a one percent chance, it’s better than having no chance at all!” Su Shoudao insisted.
Life in Syria had been tough for Su Shoudao. At first, the difficult conditions were hard to bear, but he was beginning to adapt. However, the most frustrating part lately was Hamid’s strange decision to start building infrastructure in their remote location.
The constant noise was overwhelming. Day and night, the sound of construction echoed from the surrounding mountains. Heavy machinery roared continuously, disrupting his peace. He noticed that multiple concrete mixing plants were now operational, producing concrete around the clock. This concrete was then pumped up the hillsides, where explosions were also happening sporadically. Sometimes, they would even fire cannons early in the morning.
Every cannon blast sent vibrations through the ground, shaking his shelter. As if that wasn’t enough, whenever the explosives were used, the noise from jackhammers echoed like gunfire.
In the Middle East, dawn was just breaking, but Su Shoudao had finally fallen asleep just two hours earlier, despite the noise. Suddenly, a series of loud explosions jolted him awake. The shockwaves rattled his roof, and for a moment, he thought he was in the middle of a war. Frightened, he jumped up, ready to run.
As soon as he dashed outside, Su Shou was immediately spotted by a soldier on the opposite roof. The soldier raised his gun and shouted in shaky Chinese, “What are you doing?! I’ll shoot if you try to run!”
Su Shou couldn’t hold back his anger. He shouted back, “What are you staring at me for? The enemy’s cannonballs are falling all around! Shouldn’t you be rushing to the front lines to help?”
The soldier, taken aback, lowered his gun and waved his hand. “Don’t worry, it’s not a war. That was just our engineering team blasting the mountain. They set off six explosions at once, so it sounded worse than it is. It’s nothing serious.”
“Are you kidding me?!” Su Shou exclaimed, jumping up in frustration. “You guys are out of your minds! The cannons have been firing all day. And the noise from over a hundred pneumatic picks is nonstop, day and night! Plus, there are still ten air compressors running. It sounds like a crazy person having a fit! How am I supposed to live like this?!”
