Chapter: 3123
When Su Shoudao saw the soldier’s pale face and tense posture, he became serious. “Hey! Are you trying to get yourself killed? Watch what you say! Or I won’t hold back!”
Su Shoudao was angry. “Not hold back? Let’s be reasonable. Every construction site has to have some quiet hours at night. You can’t just work day and night without a break! In our country, these big projects are only allowed during the day on workdays. Once work is done for the day, everything should stop. If you keep this up, I’ll lose my mind! Go get me your Commander Hamid. I want to speak to him directly!”
The soldier replied coldly, “Let me make this clear. The fortifications we’re repairing, including the Yongbei fortifications and the reverse slope fortifications, were ordered by Commander Hamid himself. We need to finish this work quickly. It’s critical for our entire base. Everything else has to take a back seat. Not even our deputy commander has the authority to question this!”
Su Shoudao was stunned. “What did you say? You’re repairing the Yongbei fortifications and the reverse slope fortifications?!”
“Yes!” the soldier said proudly. “We’re building strong offensive and defensive fortifications and preparing a lot of strategic reserves. Our permanent fortifications around the mountain and the reverse slope fortifications are already in progress. If we had more time, we would dig extensive tunnels in these mountains. Soon, no one in Syria would be able to get in!”
Su Shoudao was shocked. Now he understood why it was so noisy.
All day long, there was a loud rumbling sound—it turned out that Hamid was busy preparing fortifications in Xiuyong. This explained why so many trucks had been delivering supplies lately. Su Shoudao couldn’t help but wonder where Hamid had learned such strategic skills in digging deep and stockpiling food.
He thought to himself, “How can a guy from the Middle East know about building these types of fortifications? This is a technique we’ve had for decades! Did he learn this from someone older?”
Su Shoudao remembered the Shangganling battle. One of the strengths of their army back then was the reverse slope fortifications. When the enemy shelled from outside the mountains, it was hard for them to hit the hidden fortifications. This trick had allowed them to withstand millions of enemy shells. Now, Hamid had picked up on this strategy, and it frustrated Su Shoudao.
He also thought about Syria’s current situation. Both the government forces and the rebels were still using firepower from World War II. The mountainous terrain of Syria made it unlikely for them to learn from the past. It was a real mess!
Suddenly, a thought struck him. “Charlie Wade! It must be him! He must have quietly taught Hamid our army’s secrets this year! If this had happened decades ago, Charlie would have been in serious trouble!”
As Su Shoudao considered how much Hamid valued this information, he realized that Hamid was becoming the Syrian version of a military strategist.
The man felt frustrated. He thought that protesting alone was pointless.
He turned to the soldier and said, “Young man, can we talk about something?”
The soldier looked at him cautiously and replied, “What do you want to discuss?”
Su Shoudao explained, “I need a pair of earplugs to block out the noise. That way, you can go back and work on the mountain, and my presence won’t be as distracting.”
