Liu Manqiong asked, “So you brought them here on purpose to handle them?”
“That’s right,” Charlie Wade replied casually. “You don’t need to worry about the owner when dealing with dogs. But you do need to choose the right spot. If you don’t act, they will run away. And if you let them make a scene, they’ll just keep barking.”
Liu Manqiong was taken aback by Charlie’s relaxed attitude and said, “You’re a devil!”
“A devil?” Charlie frowned. “I never wanted to hurt you. But the guy in the trunk wanted to harm you himself and get those strong men to do the same. So, who do you think is wrong here?”
Liu Manqiong’s face flushed with anger. After a moment, she said, “You can’t fight violence with more violence!”
Charlie smiled and asked, “So, what do you suggest? Should I apologize to them?”
Seeing the teasing look on Charlie’s face, Liu Manqiong realized she wouldn’t get through to him. So, she ignored him and got into the car.
Charlie joined her in the car, buckled his seatbelt, and asked, “Miss Manqiong, what are we eating tonight?”
Liu Manqiong replied angrily, “If you keep talking like that, you won’t eat anything!”
After speaking, she shot Charlie a glare. Despite her annoyance, she had softened a bit inside and said, “I’ll take you to the best wonton noodles on Hong Kong Island! There’s also a place next door for curry fish balls, and you can grab some snacks too. If you’re still hungry, we can even get some spicy crabs in the typhoon.”
Kong Island is much better now. I feel safe here. Plus, I love the food too much to stay away!”
Charlie wade smiled and said, “That makes sense! This place looks amazing.”
As they walked through the lively snack street, the aroma of different foods filled the air. Liu Manqiong pointed out various stalls, and her eyes lit up with excitement.
“Over there! That stall has the best fish balls,” she said, leading the way.
Charlie wade followed her, enjoying her enthusiasm. “I can’t wait to try them!”
They stopped at the stall, and Liu Manqiong ordered a few fish balls for them to share. They found a small table nearby, where they could sit and enjoy their food.
After taking the first bite, Charlie wade exclaimed, “Wow, this is delicious!”
Liu Manqiong smiled proudly. “Told you! There’s nothing like street food.”
As they continued to eat and chat, the buzz of the crowd around them felt lively and welcoming. Charlie wade realized this was the perfect way to spend an evening on Hong Kong Island.
After finishing their meal, Liu Manqiong suggested, “Let’s try some dessert next!”
“Lead the way!” Charlie wade replied, excited for more tasty treats.
With laughter and chatter, they moved deeper into the snack street, ready for their next culinary adventure.
“Kong Island is so much better. Besides, this is a safe area. I know most of the street vendors here. Who would kidnap me in a place like this?” Liu Manqiong said confidently.
Charlie Wade nodded in agreement. “That makes sense.”
Curious, he asked her, “As someone from a wealthy family, why do you come here to eat so often? Is there something special about this place for you?”
“Yes,” Liu Manqiong replied, her eyes filled with nostalgia. “When I was a child, my mother frequently brought me here. She used to say I was a picky eater. No matter how delicious the food was at home, I only wanted wonton noodles and snacks from the street vendors. Even if we had the same dishes at home, I wouldn’t eat them. So, my mom promised that if I ate my breakfast and lunch, she would take me here for dinner.”
After sharing this memory, Liu Manqiong sighed softly, her expression turning sad. “Since my mother passed away, I’ve been coming here almost every day. I started when I was in elementary school and continued until I graduated from girls’ high school and went to university. My dad wanted me to study at a better university in the United States, but I chose to stay here on Hong Kong Island because I just couldn’t leave. You might not believe it, but aside from that time I left with my mother as a child, I have hardly ever left this place again.”
