- The Amazing Son-in-Law [The Charismatic Charlie Wade] (Chinese name) Chapter: 4486
Seeing Liu Manqiong’s sad expression, Charlie Wade felt a wave of sympathy for her. She was the eldest daughter of one of the richest families on Hong Kong Island, but her childhood was far from perfect.
Despite her father’s wealth, Liu Manqiong had a difficult upbringing. Her father’s betrayal and her mother’s early death shattered her childhood. In some ways, Charlie Wade’s experiences mirrored hers. While his parents had a loving relationship, their deaths turned his world upside down.
Charlie spent ten years in an orphanage. Although Aunt Li cared for him, those years were painful. For the first five years, he had to face the reality of losing his parents every day. In the following five years, he struggled with the sadness of missing them.
What helped Charlie heal over the next twenty years were the lessons and happy memories from his parents before he turned eight. He often thought about Liu Manqiong’s cherished memories, like when her mother would bring her to this very spot and do everything she could to get her to eat. After losing her mother, coming back here was a way for Liu Manqiong to find comfort.
Just then, a street vendor in an apron was frying noodles nearby. When he saw Liu Manqiong approaching, he greeted her with a warm smile. “Miss Manqiong, it’s great to see you!”
Liu Manqiong snapped back to reality and smiled. “Uncle Nan, I didn’t see you here a couple of days ago. Where were you?”
The vendor beamed with pride. “My daughter-in-law gave birth the day before yesterday! It’s a healthy baby boy, weighing seven pounds and eight ounces!”
Liu Manqiong exclaimed, “Wow! This is amazing! Next time I come by, I’ll definitely bring a big red envelope for the little guy!”
The vendor quickly replied, “Oh no, Miss Manqiong, you don’t have to do that. We appreciate your kindness every year. I can’t let you spend more money.”
Liu Manqiong smiled and suggested, “Uncle Nan, how about this? I’ll talk to Manager Wan and see if we can waive your rent for the second half of the year. Then, you can just focus on the red envelope for the little guy.”
The vendor, feeling sincere, responded, “How can I accept that, Miss Manqiong? You haven’t raised our rent in ten years, and you’ve helped us so much. We wouldn’t be able to support our family without you.”
Liu Manqiong laughed, “Uncle Nan, don’t be so formal! I’ll make sure to talk to Manager Wan.”
Then, she pointed to Charlie Wade and said to the vendor, “Uncle Nan, I’m taking my friends inside to eat, so please don’t interrupt us for now.”
The vendor nodded gratefully and then looked at Charlie Wade with a smile, asking, “Miss Manqiong, are you finally dating?”
Liu Manqiong quickly shook her head, saying, “No… we’re just ordinary friends.”
The vendor gazed at Charlie Wade thoughtfully and said, “I’ve been here for over 20 years, and you’re the first boy Miss Manqiong has brought here.”
Feeling flustered, Liu Manqiong replied, “Uncle Nan, he’s really just a friend! Don’t tease us!”
She then turned to Charlie Wade, saying, “Mr. Ye, let’s go.”
Charlie Wade nodded at the vendor and followed Liu Manqiong as they walked deeper into the snack street.
Once they were away from Uncle Nan’s booth,
Charlie Wade looked at her with curiosity and asked, “Miss Manqiong, I just heard Uncle Nan say that you are the landlord here?”
