Once they were inside the vehicle, Arman spoke up, saying, “Master, I just spoke to the owner of the neighboring store. He mentioned that Peter Zhou was arrested here about four months ago, which led to the store being shut down.”
“Arrested?” Charlie asked with curiosity. “What was the reason for his arrest?”
Arman replied, “It seems it was related to fraud, but the shop owner indicated that Peter’s case was quite unusual compared to typical fraud cases. When he was apprehended, it was the FBI that came to arrest him. It was quite a significant operation.”
“The FBI…”
Charlie murmured, then inquired, “Uncle Arman, shouldn’t cases like fraud be handled by the local police?”
Arman explained, “Not necessarily. If the case is severe enough, endangering national security or involving high-profile individuals, the FBI may step in. Given that Peter Zhou was arrested on fraud charges by the FBI, it suggests his situation is quite serious.” Charlie then asked, “Did the shop owner have any information about Peter Zhou’s current status?”
Arman shook his head and said, “He didn’t know much. All he could share was that the Zhou family’s antique shops in the United States seem to have shut down. As for Peter’s current situation, he hasn’t received any updates.” Sighing helplessly, Arman continued, “During my years in New York, I’ve mostly stayed in Chinatown and haven’t ventured out much. I don’t have many contacts and lack reliable channels for information.”
Charlie took a sip and reassured him, “It’s alright. When it comes to New York affairs, it’s probably best to consult Miss Fei. Her network and information sources are likely much more extensive than ours.” With that, he pulled out his phone and dialed Fei Kexin.
The phone rang seven or eight times before finally connecting. As soon as she answered, Fei Kexin asked, “Old Bai, how’s everything in Atlanta?” Charlie realized that Fei Kexin might not be in a position to speak openly, possibly because she was with her wife, Xiao Claire.
He quickly replied, “If it’s not a good time, Miss Fei, we can discuss this later.”
Fei Kexin responded, “I’m currently tied up with a project in New York. Please hold on; I’ll get back to you in about five minutes.”
“Okay,” Charlie said before ending the call.
True to her word, Fei Kexin called back five minutes later. As soon as the line connected, she respectfully addressed him, “Mr. Wade, I’ve just wrapped up discussing the project with Madam. I was worried she might misunderstand, so I hesitated to speak with you directly. I hope you can forgive me.”
Charlie smiled and replied, “No worries. You’re more considerate than I am. How has Claire been doing with you lately?”
Fei Kexin replied, “Mrs. has been busy with the project. I’m not sure how long you’ll need me to keep her occupied, so I pretended to take the lead on the project. It’s a bit exhausting, but she’s dedicated.”
Charlie chuckled, “My wife is quite ambitious, much more so than I am.”
Fei Kexin smiled gently and said, “Mr. Wade must be quite ambitious himself, or else you wouldn’t have had me invite your wife to New York.” Then, she quickly added, “By the way, Mr. Wade, is there something specific you needed from me?”
Charlie replied, “Yes, I want you to help me gather some information about a person.”
Fei Kexin responded promptly, “Just tell me what you need, and I’ll get started right away.”
Charlie said, “I’m looking for details about an antique dealer named Peter Zhou. I’ve heard that the Zhou family is quite well-known in the antiques business in Europe and the United States. Do you have any information about them?”
Fei Kexin smiled and said, “Peter Zhou’s family is indeed prominent in the Chinese antique community. They’ve been focused on Chinese antiques overseas for many years. Since the Opium War through the end of the Anti-Japanese War, a significant number of goods were exported from China. Peter Zhou’s family specializes in recovering these antiques and selling them.
