The monk nodded and inquired once more, “Have the dharma objects been prepared by the donor? If you wish to receive Master Jingqing’s consecration and blessing, it is essential to have the dharma objects ready beforehand.”
Nanako Ito replied quickly, “I rushed here and didn’t bring any dharma objects along. Is it possible to obtain one from the temple? Just a single piece?”
The monk smiled gently and explained, “Most of the amulets we offer here at the temple are the “Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra” contained within brocade bags. However, they are mass-produced items from a factory. If you desire a more significant effect, I suggest you handwrite a copy of the “Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra” and place it inside. Then, you can ask Master Jingqing to consecrate it for you.”
He continued to remind her, “The full text of the “Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra” consists of only two hundred and sixty words, so it shouldn’t be too challenging to transcribe.”
Ito Nanako quickly asked, “Could you lend me a pen and some paper? Also, would Master Jingqing be able to wait for me to finish writing before our meeting?”
The monk responded with a smile, “Certainly, I will provide you with paper and pen. You can take it directly to Master Jingqing and copy the Sutra in his presence. He will recite the scriptures, bless you, and perform the consecration all at once, ensuring the best possible outcome.”
Nanako Ito exclaimed with excitement, “That sounds amazing! Thank you very much!”
After expressing her gratitude, she bowed deeply once more.
The monk said, “Amitabha Buddha,” then turned and entered the dharma circulation area. Shortly after, he emerged with a yellow brocade bag along with paper, pen, and ink. He carefully closed the door behind him and guided Nanako Ito to the temple’s backyard.
“Please follow me, donor,” he said.
Nanako nodded eagerly and followed him to the rear of the temple.
As they passed through a weathered red brick wall, they entered the temple’s backyard, a space rarely opened to the public. Only monks and laypeople with a strong connection to the temple were allowed access here.
In this area, there is a Buddhist hall dedicated to teaching the Dharma to the laity. Some devoted laypeople with enough talent lead practices here, regularly venturing to the mountains to study the Dharma. Upon meeting the right conditions, they can officially ordain and become monks.
At that moment, Master Jingqing was seated at the lecture platform in the Buddhist hall, eyes closed while chanting sutras.
The young monk opened the door to the hall and respectfully announced, “Master Jingqing, there is a female donor who wishes to see you.”
Master Jingqing opened his eyes, nodded, and instructed, “Bring her in!”
The young monk replied respectfully, “Disciple obeys!”
With that, he turned back and stepped outside, addressing Ito Nanako, “Donor, Master Jingqing invites you in.”
Ito Nanako clasped her hands in thanks once again and, feeling both excitement and nervousness, stepped into the Buddha Hall.
Upon first seeing Nanako Ito, Master Jingqing felt a wave of realization, thinking to himself, “This girl truly embodies the wisdom to enlighten the Tao, just as Madam described. She surpasses my own potential from years past. Some individuals have an innate brilliance that is unmistakable!”
