The door of the box was open at that moment, allowing him to spot Charlie Wade sitting directly across from him.
With a quick smile, he greeted, “Mr. Wade! It’s great to see you again!”
Charlie Wade returned the smile and replied, “Come on, Steve, take a seat wherever you like.”
Steve glanced at the large round table with over ten seats before him and felt a bit awkward.
He wasn’t very familiar with the dining customs of the Chinese. This table was enormous, and if he were to sit directly in front of Charlie Wade, they would likely have to speak loudly. Yet, with so many empty seats available, positioning himself right across from Charlie would seem overly flattering.
Just as Steve was pondering what to do, Charlie gestured to the seat on his right, saying with a smile, “Sit here, Steve. This table is too large, making it feel unfamiliar. Why don’t we sit a bit closer?”
Steve quickly nodded and moved to sit beside Charlie Wade.
Charlie then pointed to the empty chair next to Steve and addressed Don Albert, “Don Albert, please sit next to Steve. It feels more comfortable that way.” Don Albert nodded in agreement.
“Okay, Master Wade!”
Once Steve was settled, Charlie Wade introduced, “Let me introduce you, Steve. This is my subordinate and the owner of Tianxiang Mansion, Mr. Don Albert.”
Steve responded politely, “Hello, Don Albert!”
Don Albert smiled warmly, “You’re welcome, you’re welcome!”
Charlie Wade then pointed to Isaac Cameron beside him, saying, “This is the current butler of the Wade family and also the general agent, Mr. Isaac Cameron.”
Steve nodded eagerly, replying, “Hello, Mr. Isaac! It’s a pleasure to meet you!”
Isaac Cameron also responded politely, “You’re welcome.”
Continuing with the introductions, Charlie Wade said to Don Albert and Isaac Cameron, “Don Albert, Isaac, this is Mr. Steve Rothschild, the current heir to the patriarch of the renowned Rothschild family. You can find more about him in the encyclopedia.”
Both Don Albert and Isaac expressed their pleasure at meeting Steve.
Despite being Charlie Wade’s subordinates, and with Don Albert being a restaurant owner, Steve remained humble, saying, “It’s an honor to meet both of you. If you ever come to the United States, please do reach out. I’d love the chance to extend my hospitality.”
Charlie chuckled, “Steve is indeed very hospitable. I’m sure we’ll enjoy a few drinks later.”
He then turned to Don Albert, “Don Albert, please have the waiter serve the cold dishes and drinks first so we can chat while enjoying them.”
“Of course, Master Wade!” Don Albert promptly arranged for the dishes, and the chef quickly instructed the waiters to bring out the prepared cold dishes.
Before Steve could fully process what was happening, nine waiters entered, bringing eight cold dishes along with a five-pound bottle of vintage Jin Jue Moutai.
As Steve stared in astonishment at the large bottle of white wine, a waiter filled the wine dispenser in front of him and poured him a glass.
After the waiter exited, Charlie Wade raised his glass and said with a smile, “Cheers, Steve! Welcome to China. According to our custom, let’s drink three glasses together first.”
Steve caught a whiff of the potent liquor and exclaimed, “This… the alcohol content is quite high, isn’t it?”
Don Albert chuckled, “It’s fifty-three degrees. A serious collection of Maotai.”
“Fifty-three degrees…” Steve was taken aback, exclaiming, “You don’t have to do that! Why not just drink three glasses right away?!”
Charlie Wade laughed, “Guests can do as they please. Don’t think I’m trying to pressure you. This is just the local custom. At the start of the meal, everyone drinks three glasses together.”
