The Amazing son in law Chapter 6624
Elaine shouted, “I’m still talking about Bagaya Road!”
Jacob sighed in response, “Tsk, that’s Japanese, you silly!”
Fuming, Elaine seized the broom from Charlie and hurled it at Jacob. He narrowly avoided it as he exited, muttering, “Crazy woman! I’m not on the same level as you. I’m off to the meeting. Gone for tea!”
Elaine yelled after him, “Jacob, come back here!”
With a smirk, Jacob replied, “I won’t listen to you. Bye-bye!”
Elaine clenched her teeth, saying, “My daughter is returning this afternoon, and you’re running off? What’s the deal? Do you plan to leave this house and live on your own?”
Surprised, Jacob asked, “My daughter is coming back this afternoon? Is that true?”
Elaine confirmed, “Of course it’s true! Did you really think your son-in-law would be out today?”
Jacob nodded and turned to Charlie, “Good son-in-law, when is Claire arriving in Aurous Hill?”
Charlie replied, “Around four-thirty or five o’clock.”
Jacob said, “That’s still early. No problem. I’ll go to the meeting first, then come back early to pick you up in the afternoon. We can go to the airport together.”
Charlie interjected, “Dad, if you have things to do, go ahead. I can pick up Claire by myself this afternoon.”
Elaine immediately countered, “No! Claire has been away for so long; we all need to go to the airport to welcome her back!”
Reluctantly, Jacob conceded, “Alright, I’ll go to the meeting first. I’ll pick you up around three or four o’clock, and we’ll head to the airport together.”
Elaine retorted angrily, “Jacob, no matter what you say, it won’t work, will it? You have to attend that shabby calligraphy and painting association today, right? If you insist on going, I’ll tag along. Aren’t you the executive vice president? Aren’t you about to be promoted to president? As the current wife of the executive vice president and future president, it’s perfectly reasonable for me to come and support you, isn’t it?”
Hearing Elaine mention the Painting and Calligraphy Association made Jacob’s stomach churn with dread. He didn’t want Elaine, with her loud personality, making a scene there. He feared that others might gossip about him, questioning why someone like him would be married to such a shrew. Wouldn’t that ruin his reputation?
Realizing he had no other option, he said, “Forget it then. I won’t go. How about we just stay home and wait until four o’clock this afternoon, and then we can go to the airport together? That’s fine, right?”
Elaine shot back, “What? Is it really that hard to take me to your meeting? Am I that clueless?”
Feeling overwhelmed, Jacob exclaimed, “Oh, you! Why do you keep stirring up trouble? It’s never-ending, is it? You wanted me to stay home, and I said I would. Can’t I just make you happy?”
Elaine replied coldly, “What’s with your attitude? Are you frustrated with me? Now that you’re on your way to becoming president, you shouldn’t be acting cowardly or letting anyone ridicule you, including me. Are you embarrassed to be seen with me?”
Jacob stammered in defense, “I didn’t mean it that way; you’re twisting my words.”
Elaine shot back, “Then what do you mean?”
Jacob, feeling dizzy from the conversation, blurted out, “I don’t mean anything! All I’m saying is that I’m not going to the meeting. I’ll be waiting at home to pick up our daughter from the airport.”
Elaine crossed her arms and scoffed, “Oh! You don’t think this means anything? What’s your plan? Are you giving up already?”
Faced with Elaine’s relentless barrage, Jacob felt like crying and quickly explained, “I…I didn’t mean that! What did I say?”
Elaine turned to Charlie, who looked frustrated and said, “Good son-in-law, you have to help me here. How have I lived with Jacob for so many years? Now that he’s on the verge of becoming president, he feels embarrassed by me, his own wife. Isn’t he like a modern-day Chen Shimei?”
Jacob could only shake his head in disbelief, while Charlie, seeing the tension, quickly said, “Mom, I remember I have something urgent to take care of. How about this: you and Dad stay home, and I’ll head out. I won’t be back in the afternoon, so I’ll take a taxi directly to the airport. Dad can drive you there to meet me, and we’ll pick up Claire together.” With that,
Charlie hurried toward the door.
Jacob, seeing Charlie leave, panicked and called out, “My dear son-in-law, don’t go! Please stay with us!”
“No, Dad, it’s really an emergency,” Charlie replied, changing his shoes. He turned back and added, “Oh, and don’t worry about dinner tonight; let’s eat out! See you at the airport in the afternoon!”
