Fuming with anger, Jimmy confronted Steve, saying, “If you keep this up, I’ll just call my boss and have him set you straight.”
Steve chuckled, “There’s no need for that. I’ve never met him or even spoken to him. He wouldn’t recognize my voice at all.”
Jimmy, infuriated, responded with a mocking laugh and repeated nods, “You really are something else! You just talk and talk. You don’t have his number because he’s not qualified, right? You don’t want to call him because he’s not worth it. I could call him for you, but then you claim he wouldn’t know your voice. How do you plan to deal with that? You claim to be part of the Rothschild family, yet you keep… You need something to prove it, don’t you? Otherwise, wouldn’t anyone just claim to be someone they’re not?”
Steve raised his hand to cut him off, saying, “How about I let my butler call your boss directly? Then you can hear it from him.”
Jimmy burst into laughter, clearly amused. “A butler? Really? You’re great at this act! Fine, I’ll wait right here for my boss’s call. I can’t wait to see just how capable your butler is—or how capable you are!”
Ignoring Jimmy’s taunts, Steve picked up his phone and dialed his butler.
The call connected almost instantly, and a respectful voice answered, “Master, how may I assist you?”
Steve replied casually, “Please contact the head of Ellis Law Firm and inform him that one of his employees, Jimmy Smith, is causing me significant dissatisfaction. If this issue isn’t addressed appropriately, both he and his firm will lose all ties to the Rothschild family moving forward.”
The butler responded promptly, “Understood. I’ll make that call right away!”
Steve ended the call and turned to Jimmy, stating, “Just remember, you brought this on yourself.”
Though Jimmy didn’t believe a word of it, he scoffed, “I’m a top ten senior partner at Ellis, a crucial member of the team, and I’m up for a promotion to the board of directors by the end of the year. You think you can just get rid of me?”
Steve nodded calmly, “If the head of Ellis doesn’t remove you, then I’ll make sure he’s the one who goes.”
Just as Jimmy was about to deliver another sarcastic remark, his phone buzzed unexpectedly.
He glanced at the screen, his eyes widening in shock.
The caller ID showed it was none other than his boss.
Staring at the phone, then back at Steve, Jimmy’s confidence began to falter. He was left uncertain whether this was mere coincidence or if Steve truly held this kind of influence.
Seeing Jimmy frozen in place, Steve smiled and nudged him, “You should probably answer that. Your boss sounds eager.”
