Paul, deep in slumber, was abruptly awakened by a call from his Uncle Jimmy.
Groggy and annoyed at first glance, Paul noticed it was Jimmy calling and almost hit the hang-up button. However, he paused to think. Despite Jimmy’s irritating nature, he was about to become his mother’s subordinate at Bruce Automobile. It seemed unlikely that he would cause trouble now, so perhaps this late-night call wouldn’t be a bad thing.
With a reluctant sigh, he answered, “Uncle Jimmy, what’s so urgent that you’re calling me so late?” Jimmy replied with excitement, “Paul, listen! I’m on my way home right now. After I settle in with your aunt and your siblings, I plan to return to China early tomorrow morning!”
Paul was taken aback. “Uncle Jimmy, Mr. Wade indicated that you should report to Aurous Hill in half a month. Even my mom and stepdad are off work for now. Why rush back? It would be better to spend some quality time with your family.”
Jimmy quickly explained, “I’ve already spoken with Knight. Tomorrow, I’ll be chartering a plane for all the board members and senior partners to Aurous Hill for a team-building exercise, and we’ll meet Mr. Rothschild while we’re at it. We can select any senior partners to stay behind, and I believe we can leave around ten people in Aurous Hill to prepare for work. Plus, I have evidence proving Knight set a trap for them, so they won’t dare decline my request!”
Paul responded, “Uncle Jimmy, if you have the evidence, there’s no rush, right? Why not rest in the U.S. for a few days? When my mom and stepdad return, you can organize everything, and it would be ideal for my mom to evaluate them personally.”
Jimmy replied impatiently, “Paul, let me be honest. I can’t let Knight continue to be so arrogant. While he’s feeling good about himself, I want to bring him back to China and douse his spirits with some cold water. I’m eager to take a few chunks out of him for my revenge. Besides, with matters like these, it’s better to act swiftly—talents and finances are best safeguarded in hand!”
Feeling exasperated, Paul asked, “Have you reached out to Mr. Wade or Mr. Rothschild yet?”
“Not yet,” Jimmy admitted. “I don’t have Mr. Wade’s contact information. I called you to ask for your help in reaching out to him. We’ll be flying out early tomorrow morning. If he’s on board, could you ask him to inform Mr. Rothschild to find time for us?”
Paul understood his uncle’s motives and said, “Uncle Jimmy, go home and spend some time with your family first. I’ll get in touch with Mr. Wade in a few hours after daybreak. It’s really too late to disturb him now.”
“No problem!” Jimmy replied cheerfully. “We have plenty of time—at least a dozen hours. Just remember to update me as soon as you hear from Mr. Wade!”
“Okay!” Paul agreed and ended the call.
Feeling relieved, Jimmy made his way back to his home in New York.
As soon as his wife saw him, she asked, “Did Matilda agree to give you some shares?”
Jimmy’s earlier good mood was instantly soured by her question. He retorted angrily, “Forget about the shares! I nearly vanished from the Chinese scene! Luckily, I’m still useful; otherwise, I might not have made it back!”
His wife exclaimed, “What? Did Matilda try something shady with you?!”
“It’s not her,” Jimmy said, waving a hand dismissively. “Listen closely: from now on, don’t mention her name directly. Always refer to her as ‘sister-in-law’ in Chinese, no matter the context. You must use that term whenever you discuss her, understood?”
His wife looked puzzled. “But before you left, you said your eldest brother was dead and you had no ties with Matilda anymore. It was just a matter of interests. Why the sudden change?”
Jimmy sighed, “Sister-in-law has become quite influential. She’s married to someone with incredible connections. Even Steve Rothschild treats him with respect.”
