“BBC?” Charlie Wade inquired, intrigued. “What did they report? Did they cover the Hogwitz family?”
“Yes!” Steve replied, quickly scrolling through his phone. “Mr. Wade, Jenny Hogwitz from the Hogwitz family actually agreed to media interviews and extensive coverage. The articles are filled with her pictures. This woman is quite clever; she’s promoting herself even before any money has changed hands.”
Even though Charlie Wade hadn’t seen the specifics of the report, he wasn’t surprised. He chuckled and remarked, “They’ve spent a billion dollars, so it makes sense that they would want to create a positive image.”
Steve, unable to contain his concern, added, “But doesn’t she realize how the kidnappers might react to this news? Her husband and son are still in danger. Isn’t she worried that the kidnappers could retaliate and harm them?”
He then handed his phone to Charlie Wade, saying, “Take a look, Mr. Wade. Many of the photos were taken by reporters at her home, which suggests she may have reached out to the media just yesterday.”
Charlie Wade accepted the phone and skimmed through the article. It mostly discussed the disappearance of the Hogwitz father and son abroad and the subsequent demand for a billion dollars. The media portrayed Jenny Hogwitz as a devoted wife and mother grappling with a tough decision.
Just as Charlie Wade was about to return the phone, he noticed another news alert on Steve’s device with the headline: “Jenny Hogwitz: The Resilient Wife, Mother, and Family Leader!”
Charlie Wade didn’t click to read it but smiled, saying, “BBNet must have planned this in advance. There’s likely a mastermind behind her strategy. Since she can’t save her family by simply throwing money at the problem, she’s taking this chance to promote herself.”
Curiously, he then asked, “What’s the connection between Anne Hogwitz and your Rothschild family?”
Steve replied, “She’s my father’s cousin, the daughter of my uncle. So, we’re quite distantly related.”
Charlie Wade nodded and casually remarked, “Even if the relation is distant, your father sent you to Aurous Hill to find them, which shows he takes this situation seriously. Maybe Jenny is even consulting him for advice; perhaps this whole plan originated from your father.”
Steve frowned, pondering for a moment before it clicked. “Mr. Wade, you might be onto something. My father has always believed in investing money for returns.”
Charlie Wade grinned, “It seems you know your father quite well.”
Steve chuckled awkwardly, “Well, they say no one knows a son better than his father, and vice versa. I do understand him pretty well.”
Then, Steve rolled his eyes and asked Charlie Wade, “Do you think this media coverage might cause you any unnecessary trouble?”
He felt that since it was his father who had discreetly advised Jenny, this was a perfect chance to subtly undermine his father in front of Charlie Wade.
Given the fragile balance of interests between father and son, whoever Charlie Wade favored could directly impact the other’s safety and well-being. Thus, Steve saw this as a prime opportunity to have Charlie Wade express his grievances about his father.
