An Understated Dominance - Chapter 284
The person Dustin arrested turned out to be the oldest son of the powerful Rhys family, a family that could easily shake the military’s foundations.
Jade felt her heart sink the moment she learned Dustin’s true identity. She was overwhelmed with regret for trying to avenge Joshua. She realized that a man with broken arms and a shattered core was not worth risking her entire family’s lives.
“Jade Grant, is this what you call a nobody?” General Jenkins shouted, turning to glare at her. “I’ve done nothing to you, so why am I being dragged into this?”
“1—” Jade stammered, struggling to find her words.
“–” She was on the verge of tears.
“How dare you trick me! You’re dead meat!” General Jenkins roared as he lunged at Jade, teeth bared. Chaos erupted as he attacked her.
“Let’s go have a drink,” Dustin said, ignoring the scene and leaving with Adam.
Meanwhile, in the East Swinton Hospital ward, Dakota’s expression turned serious after a phone call.
“So, any news about Dustin? Can he be saved?” Dahlia asked eagerly.
“No, he can’t. General Jenkins from the Grant family arrested him. I tried calling the elders, but they said Jenkins won’t listen to them. Glenstead’s military can’t interfere in Balerno,” Dakota replied, shaking her head in frustration.
“The Grant family?” Dahlia frowned. “Why? What did Dustin do to upset them?”
“I found out he committed a serious crime. He broke into the Hummer family’s home and started killing people. He even hurt Edwin Hummer’s son, Joshua! And Joshua’s fiancée is Jade Grant, the daughter of Sir Robert Grant. The Grant family will never let Dustin go without punishment,” Dakota said sadly.
She didn’t care about Dustin’s fate.
Dahlia was upset as she faced a tough decision. “Isn’t there another way?” she asked. “What if I beg the Grant family? I’ll pay anything, even if it leaves me broke!”
“That’s ridiculous, Dahlia!” Florence yelled. “Why would you go to such lengths for a man you divorced?”
“He’s helped me so many times. I have to save him!” Dahlia replied firmly.
Dakota shook her head. “It’s useless. The Grant family is one of the strongest in Balerno. They won’t care about your money.”
“Then what should we do? We can’t just sit here and wait,” Dahlia said, her brows furrowing in worry.
“Money won’t help. We need someone influential to talk to them,” Dakota suggested.
“Someone influential? Who?” Dahlia asked, unsure.
“The only person who can stand up to the Grant family is Mr. Langford from Stonia,” Dakota said. “If you ask him for help, saving Dustin should be easy.”
“Mr. Langford?” Dahlia felt troubled. She didn’t think he would help a stranger like her.
“Yes, Dahlia. The best option is to ask Mr. Langford. I got his number during dinner last night. I’ll call him right now!” Florence said, pulling out her phone eagerly.
Even while worried that Dahlia might sacrifice everything for Dustin, Florence hoped that this situation would bring Dahlia closer to Luis. During their meeting the night before, Florence noticed that Luis had feelings for Dahlia, and the Glenstead Nicholsons were also hoping for a marriage between them.
