An Understated Dominance - Chapter 287
Dustin never thought he would run into Dahlia there. Even worse, she was with another man, and it looked like they were on a date.
For some reason, this bothered him. He had just escaped from the military and his life was still in danger, yet here was Dahlia, carefree and enjoying herself. It felt like she didn’t care about him at all, and that made him feel foolish.
“Do you know her?” Adam noticed Dustin’s change in mood and asked.
“Yeah. She’s my ex-wife,” Dustin replied flatly.
“Your ex-wife?” Adam raised an eyebrow. “Maybe we should go somewhere else?”
No one likes to see their ex-wife happily chatting with someone else.
“Forget it. I didn’t do anything wrong, so why should I be afraid?” Dustin took a sip of his wine, feeling resentful.
Just then, Dahlia and her date, Luis, reached the second floor. As soon as she saw Dustin, she exclaimed, “Dustin? What are you doing here?”
“Why can’t I be here?” Dustin shot back coldly.
“When did you get out? Why didn’t you tell me?” Dahlia rushed over, looking joyful.
“Does it matter if I tell you?” Dustin replied with a stoic expression, surprising her with his attitude.
“What’s wrong? Are you hurt? Should we go to the hospital?” she asked, concerned.
“I’m fine, Ms. Nicholson. Thank you for asking. You should focus on your date instead of me,” Dustin said.
“Boyfriend?” Dahlia glanced at Luis and quickly added, “You’ve got it wrong, Dustin. We’re just friends.”
“It’s not necessary for you to explain,” Dustin replied harshly.
Just friends? Did…
Did she really think he was just a kid? Since when did normal friends of different genders arrive together in the same car for dinner?
“I’m telling you, you’re misunderstanding things, Dustin,” Dahlia said, pointing to the other man. “Let me introduce you to Mr. Luis Langford. He’s from Stonia and has connections with the military. You got out so quickly because of him.”
“Is this the friend you mentioned, Dahlia? He’s lucky to have someone like you looking out for him,” Luis said with a smile, but his eyes looked down on Dustin.
“I don’t know who Mr. Langford is, and I don’t care,” Dustin replied bluntly. “He has nothing to do with my freedom.”
“Ha, aren’t you a little too confident?” Luis laughed. “Do you honestly think you’d be here if I hadn’t called the Balerno Military?”
“I don’t know what you did, but don’t flatter yourself. I don’t need your help,” Dustin shot back coolly.
“Dustin! How can you talk to him like that? You should be polite to the person who helped you!” Dahlia frowned. She realized Dustin was acting this way because he was jealous, but he shouldn’t disrespect Luis, who was more important than him.
“When did I ever ask him for help? You two did this on your own,” Dustin said, unconcerned.
“You—” Dahlia stomped her foot in frustration and took a deep breath to calm down. “Stop causing a scene, Dustin.”
“What did I do? Was I interrupting your date? If that’s the case, I’ll leave you two alone,” Dustin said, getting up to leave.
“Wait!” Dahlia quickly grabbed his arm. “What is going on with you? I told you we’re just friends. Why won’t you believe me?”
