An Understated Dominance - Chapter 288
“Just friends, huh? Then you won’t mind coming home with me right now!” Dustin snapped.
“But…” Dahlia frowned and looked between Dustin and Luis, feeling uneasy. She didn’t have feelings for Luis, but he had helped her, and it didn’t feel right to just abandon him.
“What’s the matter? You don’t want to?” Dustin sneered. “Is this what you call a friend? How can I believe you?”
Dustin couldn’t understand why Dahlia was still hesitating. It felt like he mattered less to her than her other friends, and he thought their relationship was getting better. Maybe he was just imagining it.
“Forget it, Ms. Nicholson. You don’t need to think so hard about it. We’re nothing to each other now. Enjoy your meal. I’m leaving.” Dustin shook his head and turned away.
“Wait for me!” Adam called out as he grabbed two bottles and hurried after Dustin. He had no experience in love, so he couldn’t really help his friend.
Once outside the restaurant, Dustin stood still against the cold wind, frustrated and confused about his feelings. He might have said it was fine, but his heart still hurt when he saw Dahlia with another man.
“Forget about her, buddy. There are plenty of women out there,” Adam said, patting Dustin on the shoulder. “With your charm, you could have anyone you want. Why not think about my sister?”
“Absolutely not!” a feminine voice called out from behind them.
The two men turned to see a beautiful woman walking towards them. It was none other than Dahlia.
“Why did you come out?” Dustin asked, surprised. He didn’t expect her to chase after him; he thought she would just ignore him.
“You’re being so petty!” Dahlia exclaimed. “How can you run out when we’ve barely talked!”
“What were you doing here? I thought you were having dinner with your friend!” Dustin tried to sound calm, but he felt relieved.
“I’m just here to enjoy the breeze, okay?” Dahlia rolled her eyes, secretly happy to see Dustin a little jealous.
“Ugh, the smell of love,” Adam said, shaking his head.
“Shut up!” Dahlia and Dustin shouted together.
“Are you sure it’s safe to leave that guy alone?” Dustin asked.
“What else can I do? I’ll get him a gift to say sorry,” Dahlia shrugged, looking like she finally understood.
“You haven’t eaten yet, have you? Why not join us?” Dustin suggested.
Dahlia huffed. “At least you’re thoughtful.” She patted her belly, realizing she was hungry.
“Let’s go. I’ll take you somewhere nice,” Dustin said as he walked to the car and opened the door.
Just as Dahlia was about to get in, she suddenly saw a truck speeding toward them, loaded with dirt.
“Watch out!” She yelled, pushing Dustin away frantically.
