“You shameless bastard!” Dakota shouted, her anger boiling over. She was the proud daughter of a wealthy family, and usually, people would do anything to please her. But here was Dustin, refusing to give her the time of day.

“Who’s the shameless one?” Dustin raised an eyebrow. “Have you eaten so much junk food that you fried your brain? This is Balerno, not Glenstead, so don’t give me that attitude!”

Dakota clenched her teeth in frustration. She was furious but couldn’t lash out because she desperately needed his help to save her mother. If it weren’t for her mother’s life being at stake, she would have already struck him.

“What do you want, Rhys?” Dakota took a deep breath to calm herself.

“I won’t make it hard for you, for Dahlia’s sake,” Dustin replied. “I can save her, but first, I want you to stop acting so high and mighty and give me a real apology. Then, I want you to write a letter of apology.”

“Never!” Dakota exclaimed. “How could I, the daughter of the Glenstead Nicholsons, apologize to someone like you? Absolutely not.”

“Then forget it. I’m not the one suffering,” Dustin said lazily. “But don’t say I didn’t warn you. Your mother will die tomorrow if she doesn’t get treatment in time.”

Dakota’s heart sank. She hated hearing that, but she knew it was true. If her mother didn’t get help soon, she would be gone by morning.

“Please leave if you can’t accept my terms,” Dustin said, waving her away.

“I—I’ll do it!” Dakota finally relented. Biting her lip, she stammered, “I—I’m sorry. I was wrong.”

“Are you talking to the air? Speak up!” Dustin urged.

“I’m sorry! I was wrong!” Dakota shouted, her face turning red. It was her first time apologizing, and it felt really embarrassing.

“Fine. I’ll forgive you because of Dahlia, but remember to stop being so arrogant. Not everyone is as nice as me,” Dustin said.

Dakota felt her mood drop, and her hands hurt from how tightly she clenched her fists. She forced a smile and asked, “You’ll save my mom now, right?”

“What about the apology letter?” Dustin asked.

“I’ll write it!” Dakota gritted her teeth and quickly found some pen and paper. Before long, she finished a long letter.

“Just as expected from a lady of an aristocratic family. Your writing is perfect,” Dustin said with a nod, pleased. He put the letter away and took out a bottle of pills. “Here. One pill a day, and she’ll be as good as new in a month.”

“Just this? Are you serious?” Dakota took the bottle and looked at it suspiciously. “Are you kidding me, Rhys? My mom can be saved with just a few pills?”

“What did you expect? Should I have performed surgery instead?” Dustin replied.

“Alright. I’ll trust you this time. But your medicine better work, or I’m coming for you!” Dakota shot him a fierce glare and turned to leave.
