An Understated Dominance - Chapter 306
The old man brushed the dust off himself with grace.
“That was an amazing fight!” the young girl cheered as Ralph celebrated his victory. She turned to Dustin and Maximus. “See? Isn’t my grandpa incredible?”
“Abby, did you see my palm strikes? Those are our guild’s special moves. You’ll impress everyone when you learn them,” Ralph said proudly.
“I’ll work hard to live up to your expectations, Grandpa!” Abby replied eagerly.
“Oh, and who are they?” Ralph asked, looking at Dustin and Maximus.
“They’re just some curious bystanders, but I stopped them before they could cause any trouble. They wouldn’t be helpful with their skills,” Abby explained.
“I understand.” Ralph glanced at them thoughtfully. “There are dangerous bandits and fierce beasts on this mountain. You two need to be careful.”
“Thanks for the warning. We’ll head out since you’re okay,” Dustin said, turning to leave.
“Wait!” Abby called out suddenly. “You came to see the fight between Tatum and, um, Dustin, right?”
“Yes. Are you here for that too?” Dustin replied.
“Of course!” Abby declared with pride. “Actually, Boulderthorn invited a lot of witnesses for today’s duel. My grandpa is one of them!”
“Witnesses?” Dustin chuckled. “Is that really necessary?”
“Absolutely!” Abby rolled her eyes at him. “It’s clear you don’t know much. Any match between famous martial artists needs witnesses to keep it fair.”
“I see.” Dustin nodded, realizing he didn’t know the rules for a deathmatch.
“You two look like strong young men. I’ll give you the chance to become Steel Legion disciples,” Ralph announced suddenly.
“Disciples?” Dustin was surprised.
“You should count yourselves lucky. Being my…”
“Being Grandpa’s disciple is a dream for many people. What are you waiting for? Hurry up and thank him!” Abby said with a commanding tone.
“Sorry, but no thanks,” Dustin replied, shaking his head.
“What?” Abby’s anger flared up. “You should be grateful that Grandpa wants to take you in.”
“Young man, you won’t get this chance again. Think it over!” Ralph said proudly, standing with his hands behind his back. “It’s an honor to be my disciple. I’ll teach you a few moves, and you’ll be famous.”
Dustin couldn’t help but find their confidence funny. Did they really think someone who hadn’t even reached a high level of skill could take him on as a disciple? Had the standards for mentors fallen so low?
“Thank you for the offer, but I’m not interested,” Dustin said again, shaking his head.
“You insolent fool!” Abby huffed before turning to Maximus. “What about you?”
“I’m not interested either,” he shrugged.
“You’ll regret this decision one day!” Abby said angrily.
Her grandfather, the leader of the Steel Legion and a well-known martial expert, was generous enough to offer to take them in, yet they were foolishly refusing.
