An Understated Dominance - Chapter 333
“Some things are better discussed in person,” Dahlia said, shaking her head.
“Fine. I’ll give you three minutes. Just end it cleanly,” Florence replied, stepping aside. Tomorrow, their family would move to Stonia and start a wealthy new life. After that, a person like Dustin would never see her daughter again.
“Didn’t you say we wouldn’t have anything to do with each other? Why are you here?” Dahlia asked, looking Dustin straight in the eye.
Dustin spoke seriously. “I know the truth. Luis forced you into this, but you don’t have to marry him. I can help you!”
Dahlia paused, then forced a polite smile. “I don’t know where you got that idea, but I’m marrying Luis by choice. I wasn’t forced, but thank you for your concern.”
Even if he knew the truth, it wouldn’t change anything. Her marriage to Luis was a strategic alliance between the Langfords and the Nicholsons. Anyone who tried to interfere would be going up against two powerful families. How many people would dare to make enemies of both in all of Balerno? So, even if Dustin knew, it wouldn’t help him; it would only cause him more trouble.
“That’s not true!” Dustin said, frowning. “You don’t even like him. Why are you marrying him?”
“Does it matter? Luis can give me wealth, power, and status. Isn’t that enough?” Dahlia replied with a faint smile.
“You’re lying! I know you’re not like that!” Dustin insisted.
“Stop joking. Do you really know me?” she scoffed.
“Oh, Dustin. People should live realistically,” she added, shaking her head.
Dahlia sighed, feeling overwhelmed. “You know, instead of working so hard to make a name for myself, maybe I should just marry a rich man. It sounds easier. Why not take the chance?”
Dustin’s eyes widened in disbelief. “No! You can’t really mean that.”
“I do. I’m tired, Dustin. I just want to rest now. Please, go back.” That was all Dahlia said before she turned and went inside.
Florence, standing nearby, shouted, “Did you hear that? She’s tired! Now leave!” She waved her broom menacingly.
“Dahlia Nicholson! Don’t think you helped me at all. I’ll never be grateful for what you did!”
Dustin stood firm at the door, anger evident on his face. “And one more thing. I refuse to owe anyone anything. I will do everything I can to stop this marriage. You will not marry Luis! Do you hear me?”
“How dare you! If you try anything, I swear I’ll beat you up!” Florence was furious, raising her broom to strike, but Dustin quickly grabbed it and snapped it in half.
“Dahlia Nicholson! I’ll be at the engagement party tomorrow afternoon. All you have to do is nod, and I’ll get you out of there. Don’t worry about anything else. Just trust me. Please, have faith in me this one time!” With that, Dustin left.
Now that he knew the truth, he wouldn’t let her walk into a bad situation. It didn’t matter if they were the Langfords or the Nicholsons; if they crossed him, he would take them down.
As Dahlia listened to Dustin’s passionate words, she leaned against the door and slid down to the floor. Tears began to roll down her cheeks. Biting her lip, she hugged her knees and tried to stifle her sobs.
“Oh, Dustin. Why do you have to be so reckless? Why can’t you just let it go? Why do you put yourself in danger like this?”
