Clarissa appeared upset. Marco sensed, without needing to ask, that a disagreement might have occurred between mother and daughter. Could Kathryn have fallen victim to his mother’s murder?
Frightened, Marco quickly averted his gaze and cautiously said to Clarissa, “Mom, you and Kathryn need to eat, even if we want to talk.”
“Roll!”
Clarissa shouted in anger.
The force of her yell compelled Marco to turn and flee. In his haste, he tripped and fell, sending the tray he was carrying, along with the food, crashing to the floor. He felt mortified as the food scattered everywhere.
The study door slammed shut with a loud “bang.”
Marco dared to glance at the closed study door before quickly getting to his feet.
He couldn’t leave in that state; he needed to clean up the food mess.
Marco hurriedly tidied up the mess and dashed downstairs.
Holden and his two younger sons felt anxious when they heard the commotion from upstairs.
“Can you two go check what’s happening upstairs?” Holden suggested, assuming Clarissa was furious. He was reluctant to face her wrath, so he asked his younger sons to investigate.
Noel pushed Sage, and Sage tugged at him.
Each brother wanted the other to go first.
Ultimately, they went together because neither wanted to tackle the task alone.
However, as soon as they reached the stairs, they spotted their older brother Marco rushing down.
“Brother, what happened? It sounded like something broke,” Noel, the second brother, asked.
Upon seeing the tray Marco was carrying, Noel quickly grasped the situation.

He had intended to tease Marco about spilling Clarissa’s food but held back his playful comments upon noticing Marco’s distress.

“Dad, can you please pour me a glass of water? I need it to calm down,” Marco replied.
Before Holden could respond, Noel quickly filled a glass with water and handed it to Marco, who gulped it down in one go.
“Dad,” Marco said, looking pale as he met his father’s gaze. He lowered his voice and continued, “I don’t know what my mother and Kathryn are arguing about, but my mother attacked Kathryn.”
“Really?” Holden and his two younger sons exclaimed in shock.
Holden’s expression turned increasingly grave as he asked, trembling, “Did you see it clearly? Did your mother really harm Kathryn? Is she alive or…?”
He could hardly believe that Clarissa would attack her own daughter.
Shiloh had died at Clarissa’s behest. It could be argued that Shiloh wasn’t biologically his child, and that Shiloh’s biological father had swapped the two children, which meant Kathryn, the true daughter of the Farrell family, had not grown up with her real parents and had faced bullying and abuse from her adoptive family.

“I don’t know if Kathryn is dead or alive,” Marco replied. “All I saw was Kathryn lying motionless on Mom’s desk, and there was a broken cup on the floor.”
