Chapter 3451
-Zachary paused, uncertain of how to respond. He and Duncan could only express their concern.
Meanwhile, in Jensburg, Clarissa chose not to seize the opportunity of the night to launch an attack on Liberty.
A visitor arrived from Wiltspoon: Clive Stone, the eldest son of the Stone family. Clarissa received the news promptly.
Mr. Dunn, Clarissa’s assistant, entered her study. They held a private conversation, the details of which remained unknown to others.
No further words were exchanged that night.
The following day, a heavy snowfall blanketed Jensburg.
When Kathryn awoke, she found herself staring at a white ceiling and smelling medicine. This was not her room; Pedro had taken her to the hospital.
She wondered what time it was. As her memory returned, Kathryn sat up quickly, but dizziness caused her to collapse back onto the bed.
What kind of medication had her mother given her? She remembered being awake the previous night but felt faint and weak, quickly dozing off again. She couldn’t recall Pedro bringing her to the hospital.
“Miss, you’re awake.”
The noise startled Pedro, who had been resting on the sofa in the small hall. He hurried in and touched Kathryn’s forehead, relieved to find she didn’t have a fever.
Kathryn had been taken to the hospital the night before. After undergoing various examinations and blood tests, the results were still pending. The doctor was unable to determine the medication responsible for her weakness and dizziness. Pedro refrained from mentioning that Clarissa had given Kathryn the medicine, instead suggesting she had taken something by mistake.
Kathryn had slept soundly all night while Pedro waited outside. He also kept an eye on the actions of the Farrell family. Wiltspoon had sent additional people, including Clive Stone, to Jensburg.
Pedro realized that Liberty had not left Jensburg, despite Kathryn’s request. As a descendant of the Farrell family…
Family, she demonstrated great courage. If he were in her position, Pedro would also choose to stay. Leaving would only offer temporary safety without addressing the underlying threat, which remained unresolved. They required sufficient evidence to tackle the issue.
Although the previous head’s assistant was alive, he might lack any evidence regarding Clarissa’s conspiracy. His claim of being hunted by Clarissa’s men could indirectly point to her involvement, but she might retaliate against him. More witnesses were necessary to establish that Clarissa had harmed the former head of the family.
“Mr. Fraser.”
Kathryn felt more at ease lying down and didn’t force herself to sit up. Taking Pedro’s hand, she asked anxiously, “How is Liberty? Did my mother do anything? How long have I been asleep?”
“Ms. Hunt is still in Jensburg, staying at Fortress Hotel as usual. Madam Farrell has done nothing, and you’ve only slept for one night.”
Kathryn was not surprised that Liberty remained in Jensburg, but she was taken aback that her mother did nothing. Her mother had even drugged her, seemingly with the intent to harm Liberty. Upon briefly regaining consciousness, Kathryn had heard her mother, in tears, express her desire to do something unpleasant and her wish to keep Kathryn out of it.
In that moment, Kathryn sensed that her mother still harbored some maternal affection, unwilling to involve her in hurting Liberty. However, if her mother did harm Liberty, Kathryn would feel guilt and shame.
