Camryn remained loyal to Callum, saying, “You’re busy with work, so prioritize that. I’ll take Grandma for a walk to help her unwind. Aunt Tania just scolded her, and now her face is flushed.”
The elderly woman was at a loss for words.
Callum chuckled on the phone but refrained from asking what Aunt Tania had said to Grandma to avoid adding to her embarrassment.
After hanging up, Callum set his phone down and took a few sips of his coffee. Just as he was placing the cup down, he heard a knock at the door.
With a deep voice, he replied, “Come in.”
The office door swung open, and Evan entered.
Upon seeing Evan, Callum smiled and asked, “What brings you here today?”
“Brother, that comment you made really hurt my feelings. I am your real brother,” Evan responded as he sat down across from Callum.
They were siblings from the same mother.
Callum chuckled, “You only come around when you need something. When everything’s fine, you disappear. River visits me more often than you do.”
River, being young and still in training, often made mistakes or encountered challenges that required assistance from his brothers.
Typically, he would ask Elian for help first. If Elian couldn’t resolve the issue, he would turn to Evan. If Evan was unable to help, he would finally approach Callum. It was like following a chain of command.
If they needed to consult Zachary, it indicated that something serious was at stake.
“River came asking for help. There was no other option. I think our eldest brother prefers that River doesn’t come here all the time,” Evan remarked.
Evan glanced at Callum’s coffee cup and inquired, “Is there any more coffee? I didn’t sleep well last night and could use a cup to perk me up.”
Callum looked at Evan,
Callum frowned and asked, “Were you up to something? You have dark circles under your eyes. If you don’t get enough rest, you’ll age prematurely. You don’t even have a wife yet. Grandma found someone for you, but you didn’t like her. There’s more coffee in the break room.”
Evan got up and walked away. After a while, he returned and sat down again. While sipping his coffee, he said, “I really don’t love Abby. It’s not that I’m intentionally rejecting Grandma’s choice. I tried for a few months, but I just don’t have feelings for her. What can I do?”
Callum replied, “If you don’t love her, don’t marry her. You can’t ruin her life and waste her youth. So, what’s the real reason you’re here?”
Evan laughed, “Brother, can’t I just come to talk because I’m bored?”
Callum threw a pile of documents at him. “If you’re bored, help me with these documents. I’m exhausted and busy. I don’t even have time to text your sister-in-law. You’re bored? That’s infuriating.”
Everyone was busy.
Evan’s claim of boredom was just irritating to his brothers.
He said, “Brother, I misspoke.”
Callum glared at him.
Evan surrendered under the glare, “Alright, alright.”
Callum finally had someone to help, and he wouldn’t miss the chance to take advantage of it.
He immediately stood up with his coffee cup to make space for Evan.
