Jacob retorted, “You have two hands and two feet. Why don’t you make your own money instead of asking for it? Look at me—I’m part of the calligraphy and painting association now, earning ten to twenty thousand a month!”

Elaine scoffed, “Bah! Don’t brag about your association. If it weren’t for Charlie’s help, you’d have given up long ago! Just leave!”

Not wanting the argument to escalate, Charlie quickly interjected, “Mom, Dad, can we please stop bickering? When I’m out, you two will be all alone at home. I won’t feel at ease if you’re constantly fighting!”

Elaine huffed, “I won’t pay him any mind unless he causes trouble!”

Charlie nodded, understanding Elaine’s temperament. She could be a handful whether she had money or not, but at least when she was financially secure, she wouldn’t act out as much. So, he decided to offer a solution.

“Mom, money isn’t a big deal. I’ll transfer one million to your account shortly, and you can use it however you need during this time,” he announced.
