Jacob and Elaine were in the living room when Charlie Wade approached them and said, “Mom and Dad, Claire sent a video. I’m going to answer it here.”
The two parents quickly agreed, and their previous tension dissipated. Without hesitation, Charlie Wade pressed the answer button.
Once the video connection was established, Claire’s elegant and charming face appeared on the phone screen.
Spotting Charlie Wade, Claire exclaimed, “Husband, you’re home!”
Charlie Wade replied with a nod, “I just got back today to introduce you to my parents.”
As he spoke, he moved his phone to include Jacob and Elaine in the frame.
Jacob, looking concerned, asked, “When will my daughter be back? Dad misses you!”
Elaine quickly chimed in, “Sweetheart, don’t pay attention to your dad’s silly comments. While I miss you too, I understand how important it is for you to be with the American Fei family right now. This is a fantastic opportunity for you. You should prioritize your career. If things get tough, I’ll fly out to the United States to support you!”
Claire smiled and replied, “Mom, I sent the video to Charlie Wade to share this news. I just finished a morning meeting with Ms. Fei and the team. There are some legal issues with the project in the U.S., which means we need to pause for now. I plan to return to Aurous Hill first.”
Elaine felt a twinge of disappointment upon hearing this and asked, “So the Fei family still can’t resolve those legal issues?”
Claire reassured her, “Whether they can resolve it or not, we need to go through the proper judicial channels once the lawyers get involved.”
Elaine pressed further, “But don’t they have the means to fix the issue directly?”
Claire explained, “Regardless of wealth, everyone must follow the law. Since this is a legal matter, it has to be addressed through legal processes.”
Elaine sighed, feeling let down. “I was planning to visit the United States to spend some time with you. Just come back as soon as you can.”
Then Elaine added, “By the way, sweetheart, they won’t use this situation as an excuse to delay your salary, will they? You need to make sure they don’t pull that. The project’s suspension is their issue, and you should receive every penny you deserve!”
Claire sighed, “Mom… why do you always focus on money?”

Noticing Elaine’s disappointment, Charlie Wade quickly interjected, “Daughter-in-law, when do you plan to come back? Have you figured out a timeline?”
Claire responded, “I want to share all the project details with you first. I’ll finalize the progress and work on the remaining issues. If everything goes smoothly, I’ll rush back. If I can’t wrap things up tomorrow, it’ll definitely be the day after.”
