Charlie Wade inquired, “Have you found the ticket? Is there a flight available the day after tomorrow?”
Claire responded, “Ms. Fei mentioned she would arrange for the Fei family’s private plane to take me back, but I feel uncomfortable about it. The cost of a private flight is in the millions. I can’t let someone spend that much on me!”
Elaine quickly chimed in, “Sweetheart, why not just take a regular flight back? You can ask her to deduct the cost of the private plane from your fare! Have her discount it by a million!”
Charlie Wade interjected, “The Fei family has numerous planes. If they’re not used often, they just sit there and need maintenance. The actual cost of an extra flight isn’t too significant. Plus, there are no direct flights from New York to Aurous Hill; you’d have to make a transfer, which is quite a hassle. My dear wife, I think it’s best to let Ms. Fei arrange for a special flight for you.”
Claire replied, feeling a bit shy, “But it feels so awkward…”
Charlie Wade assured her, “There’s no reason to feel awkward about it. This was Miss Fei’s suggestion, and I’ll call her later to express my gratitude.”
He continued, “You’ve been in the U.S. for quite a while now. My parents and I really miss you. Come back as soon as you finish your tasks. Miss Fei will set up a flight for you, and once you’re done with work, you can head straight to the airport. You can just sleep on the plane and be home before you know it. Otherwise, you’ll be stuck waiting for your flight, making transfers, and who knows how long that could take.”
Claire, hearing this, nodded slightly, stuck out her tongue, and whispered, “Honestly, I do want to come back soon, but I feel bad about having others spend money on me.”
Charlie Wade smiled and replied, “There’s no need to feel bad when your husband is able to afford a private jet.”
Claire thought he was joking and casually said, “Alright, but I don’t want you to overwork yourself.”
At that moment, a professional woman entered Claire’s office and politely announced, “Ms. Claire, our next meeting is about to start. Should we reschedule?”
Claire quickly responded, “No, I’ll be there right away.”
Then she turned to Charlie Wade, saying, “Husband, I need to go now. I have a meeting to discuss the follow-up and some finishing issues. I’ll talk to you later.”
“Sounds good,” Charlie Wade replied with a smile. “You focus on your work, and we’ll catch up later.”
After ending the video call, Elaine couldn’t help but murmur, “Hey, tell me, if Claire works for Ms. Fei, how much do you think she gets paid? The Fei family seems really influential. Surely, eighteen million isn’t too far-fetched?”
Jacob rolled his eyes and said, “Do you think wealthy people just throw their money around? Working for rich individuals is just about market rates. Can a janitor at Apple earn millions a year?”
Elaine scoffed, “Jacob, come on! Are you seriously comparing our daughter to a janitor? Do you really think we’re on the same level as Apple’s cleaning staff?”
