You’ll move out first to allow Mom some space to calm down. Upon hearing this, Jacob grasped Charlie Wade’s hand tightly, his voice thick with emotion: “Good son-in-law, your words bring me some comfort! Tell me, what can I do to help?”
Charlie Wade replied earnestly, “Dad, if you truly want to pursue this plan, you must be willing to risk everything, including giving up your own talent.”
Jacob responded with determination: “I’m ready to give up anything. As long as I can overcome this challenge, I will do whatever you ask of me!”

Jacob asked, almost instinctively, “Why not?”
Charlie Wade explained, “Don’t forget, when you leave this house, I will still be living here!”
He continued, “If I were to rent you a fancy place and set up a library for you, Mom wouldn’t forgive me. I’ll need to look out for myself. I can only rent you a modest little house. If Mom holds it against me, I can still justify my actions. After all, we can’t let you sleep on the street, right? Otherwise, Claire and I would be guilty of abandonment.”
Jacob, taking in Charlie Wade’s serious demeanor, sighed and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. “I understand, I understand. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn’t want to cross Elaine either…”
Charlie Wade affirmed, “Dad, I will do my utmost to help you this time, but remember, there’s no turning back now. Let’s give it one last shot. If we fail, we’ll accept it gracefully!”
