Looking at it from a different perspective, it seems that aside from Elaine, there may not be another woman in the world who could put up with him.

This is largely due to Elaine’s straightforward nature. She expresses her displeasure openly, scolding him when she’s unhappy and hitting him when she’s angry. This approach allows her to mitigate the impact of Jacob’s many shortcomings through a combination of tough love and honesty.

If someone with Matilda’s personality had to face Jacob’s constant flaws without any outlet for her frustrations, she would likely end up feeling overwhelmed or deeply unhappy.

Charlie Wade believes that after today’s challenges, Jacob and Elaine’s relationship should improve significantly. At the very least, when they return home, they won’t have to worry about old arguments or a cold silence between them.

Although Claire didn’t witness the unpleasant behavior of her parents, she could sense a positive change in their relationship following the incident, and she felt grateful to her husband, Charlie Wade.

As Charlie drove the car onto the highway back to the city, he asked, “Mom and Dad, where should we eat tonight? Are we still planning to eat out?”

Elaine quickly replied, “No, no! Claire’s plane landed early, and it’s only about four o’clock now. Our family hasn’t had a meal together in ages. Why don’t we just cook and eat at home? It’ll be much more enjoyable!”

Jacob chimed in enthusiastically, “I think that sounds perfect! Claire hasn’t been home in so long. We definitely need a family meal, and it’s been too long since we’ve had a good home-cooked dinner. How about we all go to the supermarket to pick up some vegetables, chicken, duck, and fish? The two of us can whip something up for you tonight!”

Claire, hearing this, raised her hands in agreement and said excitedly, “My parents haven’t cooked together in ages. This is going to be a feast!”

Seeing the three of them reach an agreement, Charlie smiled and said, “Alright, let’s head straight to the supermarket for a big shopping spree!”

Elaine sighed from the backseat, “Oh, what a pity.”

Jacob turned to her, curious, “Wife, what are you regretting? What’s making you feel this way?”

Elaine replied with a hint of nostalgia, “I just wish Mrs. Willson was still around to hand out plastic bags at the supermarket. I could really use her service while shopping!”

Jacob inquired, “Wasn’t she detained a while back? What’s the situation with her now?”

With a proud smile, Elaine responded, “That awful woman! She lied and cheated so much money; I bet she’s had to give it all back!”
